Who should try out for FC Spokane?

FC Spokane offers soccer at various levels and is for players who want to benefit from professional coaching and training and who want to be part of a progressive well-structured club. Regardless of a players desired level of play FC Spokane will provide a suitable team.

How do I register for tryouts?

Online pre-registration will be available on the FC Spokane website before all tryout sessions. We strongly recommend pre-registering as that helps facilitate the check-in process at tryouts. Registration forms will also be available at the tryouts. A parent or guardian of a player who did not pre-register online must attend tryouts to complete the forms, which includes a medical and liability release waiver. Forms must be completed and signed before a player will be allowed to participate in tryouts.

What should I bring?

Please arrive around 20 - 30 minutes prior to the tryout start time to sign in and receive tryout number.

Players should wear a white shirt, soccer boots, shin-guards, and bring a water bottle and appropriate sized ball. Do NOT wear club uniforms or any other clothing indicating a club or team affiliation (including FC Spokane).

What age group should I try out for?

Please check the Age Chart. It outlines the range of birth dates and what age groups you fall in to. FC Spokane encourages players to try out for teams that are age appropriate however playing up may be considered on a case by case basis. If you are interested in playing up, please discuss this with the Director of Coaching before tryouts.

What should parents do during tryouts?

Parents are encouraged to stay throughout the tryout process. FC Spokane officials and staff will be available to talk to parent groups, answer questions and provide insight. We ask that parents do not engage in any coaching or yelling at players during the tryout process.

What do you look for in a player during tryouts?

Players will be evaluated on their technical and tactical skills as well as their physical abilities and attitude. It is important for players to relax and have fun.

What if I am sick or injured during tryouts?

Please contact the appropriate Director of Coaching and they will advise you on how to proceed. FC Spokane also offers supplemental tryouts for all ages.

What if I miss tryouts?

Please contact the appropriate Director of Coaching and they will advise you on how to proceed.

What if it is raining the day of tryouts?

Tryouts will be held rain or shine, unless there is lightening, high winds and unusually stormy conditions. Tryouts may be rescheduled if there has been continuous rainfall in the days prior. Please check the website for field updates and cancellation/reschedule notices. FC Spokane will also email any changes and post on social media.

When will I find out if I have made a team?

We will extend offers by phone or email on the night of tryouts and in the days following the conclusion of tryouts. Once commitments have been secured, team rosters will be formed. We do not want to pressure your family into making a commitment if your player is unsure.  We will be happy to discuss and advise you on all of your options.

When will I have to commit to the team and what happens after I commit?

You will be asked to commit soon after receiving your invitation. Families of invited players will receive instructions for player registration at the team formation meeting.

****Selected players must make a full season commitment to their team. Each level has varied commitment levels throughout the year.

What are team formation meetings?

The team formation meeting is scheduled early and posted along with tryout dates. It is essential that players and parents attend in order to complete registration. Please bring credit card or check books to team formation meetings. At team formation meetings coaches get the chance to meet all players and parents, lay out the plan for the year and address various housekeeping issues. At the team formation meeting volunteers will also be sought for any unfilled team positions.

What if I do not make a team? Will I get feedback on how to improve my chances for the following season?

FC Spokane has multiple teams at all ages and our hope is that we never need to cut players. If we cannot form a team for all players we will work with other local clubs to ensure that every player who wishes to play can play.

Our family is feeling pressure from other clubs to commit before the FC Spokane Tryout, what if we are pressured to commit before trying out with FC Spokane?

Most clubs in this area respect families trying to find the best club that fits their child.  Please let the other club know you are looking and cannot give an answer yet. This is tryout time for all clubs in the area and many know parents are looking for what fits for them.  If the club is forcing your family into a quick decision it may not be the best club environment for players or parents.
