B-97 Black Make State Cup Semi Final

Congratulations to our FC Spokane B-97 Black team for their great run in the Virginia Mason 2013 Washington State Championship Cup.

The boys topped last years quarter final result with a tremendous effort in the semi final match at Starfire Complex on February 9th versus a very strong Crossfire U15 Academy team. The boys held their own and looked dangerous throughout the match with several chances to score. Both Goalkeepers were in top form with FC Spokane only succumbing in the last seconds of stoppage time at the end of the game.

Congratulations on the outstanding effort boys. You commanded the attention from many people around the State with your tenacity and hard work.

A Message from FC Spokane Executive Board (Formerly River City Soccer Club)

To Our Players, Parents, Coaches, Team Managers and the community of Spokane:

We are pleased to announce that on Monday, February 27, 2012 the River City Soccer Club Board of Directors voted on a number of proposed changes to our club.

Moving forward the club will be called FC Spokane. The name change is a part of the extensive changes the club will make to our programming, club structure and club staff. The vision and mission of the club has been altered to afford more opportunities for players to develop in an appropriate environment and to make FC Spokane the leader in the Spokane soccer community and beyond.

The Board of Directors voted to amend the club By-Laws to positively change the structure of our club and to set in motion the clubs strategic plan to implement a new soccer development model. Our aim is to have a club model that other clubs will try to emulate and which will set us apart from other clubs locally, regionally and nationally. The amended club By-Laws will be available online soon.

The Board of Directors voted to amend our staff structure in order to ensure the club will have the infrastructure to develop and support Spokane soccer players with the end result being a club model that affords every member the opportunity to play soccer at the highest level available based on ability and desire to compete. The Structure will include:

  • Boys Director of Coaching
  • Girls Director of Coaching
  • Youth Development Director (5-10)
  • 2 Assistant Directors of Coaching

The Board of Directors voted to implement a Youth Development Academy for players aged 5 thru 10. This will ensure that our Youth Development Director with the assistance of the club coaching staff can build strong links with the local recreational soccer community and create a clear path for players to follow to become members of the FC Spokane program at the older/higher levels.

The Board of Directors wants to assure all current and prospective members that the amendments to the club model will provide the highest level of coaching, the best club structure and the best soccer experience available in the Spokane area.

FC Spokane will be welcoming a number of new professional coaches along with retaining the best professional coaches from the River City Soccer Club staff. A full list of coaches will be released in the coming days and weeks. Our growth is consistent with our commitment to provide the highest quality soccer programming in the Spokane area and beyond.

The commitment of the club moving forward is to be a unifying force in what has previously been a fractured Spokane soccer community. We are actively planning some events to allow for a smooth transition for players, parents and coaches this spring. Details of events will be released as they are finalized. We invite all Spokane soccer players, parents and fans to be part of the next evolution in Spokane soccer. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements over the coming days and weeks.

If you have more questions please contact us at fcspokane@gmail.com

Yours in Soccer

FC Spokane Executive Board

A loss to River City and Spokane Community

Jessica Sund, a long time soccer player and lover of the game, passed away suddenly this week on October 11, 2011, at the age of 12. Jessica suffered a severe inoperable brain aneurysm due to a congenital vessel malformation. She joined our Lord in heaven in the presence of her loving mother and father.
Loved by all, Jessica was a smart, beautiful young woman with an infectious smile and a twinkle in her eye. She was a member of the Catholic home schooling community and was an alter server. She was a violinist in theSpokane Youth Symphony's Sinfonietta Group, played club soccer, and snow skied. Jessica enjoyed volleyball, baking, sewing and(winning at) pinochle. She loved playing with and teasing her siblings, girl talking with her older sister, hunting with her dad, listening to her mom read books aloud, playing with her many close friends, and mothering her young cousins. She is survived by her parents, Jeffrey and Jennifer Sund; sisters, Michaela, Abigail, and Katarina; and brother, Nicholas, all of Spokane.
Jessica will be sorely missed by family, friends, and her team. The first to befriend the friendless, the last to seek attention, full of empathy and smiles, sweetest Jessica we will miss you!
